What the heck does an energy audit include?

Using Hohm to analyze you home energy consumption is a great way to start understating the complex networks that make up your home. Having an energy audit conducted on your home is another step that you can make to gain a deeper level of understanding of the strengths and weaknesses your home has when it comes to energy consumptions. In the video below I had Vesta Home Performance did a thorough audit on my home and found some major improvements that I could make. One of the biggest problems they fond was a hole going from my attic down to the bottom floor of my home.

In addition to finding air leaks with in my house Vesta found some other weaknesses and strengths in my home. Here’s an animation of my home with some of their biggest concerns with my house.

If you have any additional questions about my home energy audit please let me know by leaving a comment or reaching out to me on Twitter and Facebook. Also a quick FYI Vesta will be coming out again in the next couple of weeks to work on fixing multiple problems with my house and I’ll be filming all of it to show you what to look for and additional DIY tips to make some of these changes yourself.

In the past 2 years, I've moved from being a skeptic to becoming a firm advocate of these audits. Became so passionate and convinced about it, that I'm investing both my time and money into it. I started a company in WA state that will be doing these audits after seeing what small changes in my own home could do.

I think the biggest challenge is educating people to the financial benefits from doing an audit. The folks who are "green" get the concept and are already doing so many things, that this is just icing on the cake. The challenge will be to convince everyone to do some simple tests.

I'll be watching your site. Can't wait to see where you go next.
