What Do Supermodels Do in the Dark?

It's no secret that Victoria's Secret model Gisele Bündchen loves the earth. The Brazilian supermodel is a U.N. advocate for environmental awareness, has a green blog, and just started an eco-friendly skincare line. Recently she and Patriots beau Tom Brady (looking slightly like a '70s Ken doll) appeared in some short videos to raise awareness about Earth Hour, when people worldwide flick off lights for an hour to raise awareness about climate change. (Coincidence that it saves energy? I think not.)

If you aren't familiar with Earth Hour, the event (created by the World Wildlife Fund) is coming up next Saturday, March 27 at 8:30pm local time. Last year, about 80 million Americans participated, and landmarks around the world went dark, including the Las Vegas strip, the Eiffel Tower, and the Space Needle (represent!). The year before that, Chicago and northern Illinois reduced electricity use by about 5 percent during Earth Hour—roughly the equivalent of planting 104 acres of trees or taking 95 cars off the road for a year. And Arizona residents saved enough electricity during Earth Hour to power 6,250 homes at once!

Hangin' out in the dark is both symbolic and meant to spur climate change action and advocacy. Check out the Earth Hour site and stay tuned for Hohm's Top 10 Things to Do in the Dark (to save energy...what were you thinking?!).

Head to Treehugger to watch Gisele's PSA, in which she urges you to "make the switch to a better, cleaner world."
