Energy Efficiency In A Colorful Light

Yesterday I posted a creative video produced by Geoffrey Ladd, a student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, that demonstrated ways to reuse simple materials around the house to make trendy woman’s jewelry. For today’s design note I came across a Polish design studio emocja studio (Agnieszka Bartosiewicz & Krzysztof Ruść) that has created a ‘blop’ lamp featuring a lamp shade compiled from paint swabs. This one hit home for me since I have a couple stacks of color swabs lying in my garage from the last time I painted my house. I’ll use them when?.... probably never. Now I have a new project that to try out! (Let me know if you want to challenge me on creating the best blop lamp.)

The really interesting part of this design is the paint chips are assembled in a way  where the light covering can be made into different shapes. The concept is quite interesting because they are not only reusing a usually wasted product but the design of the light cover itself can be reused and molded into a variety of different fashions. This is something you can use for hanging lights in your kitchen, to a reading lamp in your bedroom or living room.

To make this into a Hohm green design project you’re going to need to make sure you put the correct lighting inside the shade. You can use the Hohm recommendations to determine whether LEDs or CFLs would be more appropriate. I’m going to work on creating mine and will post some video and pictures of my adventures creating a blop lamp for your viewing entertainment. If you’re inspired to create your own send in your story and picture/video of your final product.
