Announcing our Welcome Hohm Challenge Winners!

Last November we kicked off the Welcome Hohm Video Challenge and asked you, our Hohm community, to submit a short video and/or photo showing what you've done (or would like to do) to make your home more energy efficient. The creativity and diversity of your ideas and efforts did not disappoint. Thanks to all who participated — we're truly inspired by your passion and commitment.

And now, it’s with great pleasure that we announce our winners.

First prize video category: John Jinks

The production quality of John's video impressed everyone – from the smooth flow of graphics to the upbeat music. However, John's entry contained just as much substance as it did flash. His tips spanned the entire spectrum of budget and complexity — from a water filter and convection oven to solar power compressor and wind turbines. Thanks for the great video, John, and congratulations!

First prize photo category: Doug Gribbons

Doug's winning image captured the installation of 35-170 Watt solar panels on his roof in Lakewood, Colorado. According to Doug, " For several months in the summer, we don't pay a dime for electricity! And during the winter (even with the shorter days), our monthly bill of $100 - $125 is now down to $15 to $20." Well done, Doug!

Second prize video category: Roger Blonder

In his incredibly creative submission, Roger showed his commitment to both the environment and rhymed verse. We applaud the tremendous progress Roger and his family have already made on their home (including Low-e glass windows and solar panels), and expect great things to come!

Second prize photo category: Chris Donato

Chris pitched in to help make his neighbor's home more energy efficient — tearing down the old siding to replace it with more energy efficient siding, and then replacing the old insulation as well. Chris now wants to address the siding and insulation on his own house. We're sure your neighbors appreciated your hard work, and we're all behind you with your own initiatives.

Thanks again to all who participated! We are contacting all winners and participants this week to make sure you’re set up with your prize. If you haven’t connected with Stephanie yet, please email her at Stephanie@future-works.com.

    Hey Microsoft Hohm -

My dad (Chris Donato) said he never got an e-mail from you guys about how to claim his prize. He sent you an e-mail the week the winners were announced and we have not yet heard from you.

No problem I'll have the lead of the contest reach out again. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Doug Gribbons Tuesday, February 02, 2010

    Hey Elliott

I haven't heard either, could they contact me as well?

    I really appreciate the win!

I would urge everyone to check into the rebates and incentives available in your area.  My local utility actually covered about 80% of the cost of my system.  It's a pleasure opening the utility bill every month and seeing what the sun has done.  Imagine, in the dead of winter when everyone else is shocked at their $200 bill, and your's is $18.  Happens to me all the time.

    Thanks again!!
